Dr. LeRoy Zimmerman will be the Father’s Day speaker for the Men’s Council Father’s Day Program, Sunday June 21, 2015. Dr. Zimmerman was born in Cameron, S. C. He attended public school and graduated from South Carolina
State College in 1966. He received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996, Zimmerman received the Education Specialist Degree and his Doctorial Degree in Education from the George Washington University.
In 1993, Dr. Zimmerman taught at Denbigh High School, Newport News, Virginia and became an assistant principal at Woodside High School. In 2003 Zimmerman moved to Savannah and became the Assistant Principal at the Herschel V. Jenkins High. He retired from the Savannah Chatham County Schools in 2014.
In 2013, Zimmerman initiated the “School Mentoring Program”- establishing mentoring programs in the elementary, middle, and high schools in Savannah.
Currently, Zke serves as President of the 100 Black Men of Savannah.
He is the Moderator of his church where he also teaches Sunday School. He is a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Gideons International and Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Zimmerman and his wife, Alice, has been married for 46 years and have one biological child, Rodney, who is a graduate of UCLA and former professional basketball player. They are also parents to 25 other children. They have acquired 7 children since moving to Savannah in 2003.
