Dr. Jacquelyn W. Stephens is Savannah State University’s 2014 MEAC Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Dr. Stephens served as acting head and associate professor of Elementary Education at Savannah State and is a long time advocate for her alma mater, Savannah State University
Dr. Stephens has demonstrated her loyal support of this great university by attending numerous campus events and maintaining active participation and membership in the SSU Community Booster Club, the SSU National Alumni Association Diamond Life Member, and the SSU NAA Savannah Alumni Chapter. She served as the Homecoming Grand Marshall for SSU in 2012. Her infectious commitment to SSU and its athletic programs are extensive and commendable. Recently, Dr. Stephens established the Jolly L. Stephens Football Scholarship Endowment named in honor of her late husband and former SSU football player with an initial donation of $25,000
Her many stellar awards include a national Kellogg Fellowship. The Georgia Reading Hall of Fame and the 2007 Beach institute Award. Her commitment to our community through the creation of the “Teens On Target Television Sow”. Life membership in the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, the King-Tisdale Cottage Foundation and the NAACP are all evidence of her solidarity to our institution and the community.
