DeRenne Middle School put some exciting plans in place for the week of CRCT.
In an effort to improve the test scores of each student, the school council coordinated a special breakfast snack to be given to their 800 students before each morning of testing.
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) agreed to sponsor the first day of testing with sausage and butter biscuits from McDonald’s Restaurant on Abercorn.
Then McDonald’s joined in this effort and offered 100 butter biscuits free, along with a beverage .
The school PTA also agreed to assist with a breakfast snack for the rest of the testing days which included breakfast bars, fruit, and cereal.
Ms. Marsha Tolbert, Principal at DeRenne, said “it’s wonderful when the community joins in to encourage the children to do their best.
The CRCT is a critical examination and we want to go the extra mile to help each student pass and even raise test scores overall.”
A CRCT pep rally was held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 1:30.
The president of the school council, Angelia Dorsey, said, “When ILA, McDonald’s, and PTA were approached they were more than happy to support this incentive for the students.
Thanks to the other council members Brenda Solomon Stedman, Cynthia Gordon, and Angela Sistrunk it all came together.
As you know case research has proven that children test better after eating a substantial breakfast; now the rest is up to the students.”
