Join Step Up Savannah and local business, neighborhood, and community leaders to what a local “infrastructure of opportunity” might look like, from increased educational spending, wages, and workforce development. Come celebrate the community champions winning our new Creating Opportunity Awards. Creating Opportunity in Savannah, Step Up Savannah’s Annual Meeting & Breakfast will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 8:00 am – 10:00 a.m. at Savannah Technical College, Eckburg Auditorium. The speaker will be David Dodson, President of the non-profit MDC in Durham, N.C.
Dodson speaks frequently around the country on advancing equity and opportunity for low-wealth and marginalized communities and has advised major philanthropic foundations on strategies to address poverty and reduce social disparities based on the premise that “society benefits when everyone succeeds.” He is co-author of numerous MDC publications on issues of regional economic competitiveness, educational attainment, youth and young adult employment, and strategic philanthropy. MDC’s 2014 report, “State of the South,” called on the region to develop an “infrastructure of opportunity” that reflects the whole community: employers, community- based programs, education systems, and civic and neighborhood leaders.
This community event is open to all at no charge but reservations are required. RSVP to Janeene Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org 912-232-6747.
