The Consortium of Doctors Ltd., “ A National Think Tank of African- American Women with Doctorate Degrees” will hold their annual conference on Thursday July 26, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah (Foyer Ballroom). The events are free and open to the public.
On Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 1pm-2pm they will honor the 10th anniversary/ re-dedication of the African-American Family Monument at Rousakis Plaza on River Street adjacent to Hyatt Regency Savannah.
Dr. Abigail Jordan, a doctoral graduate of the University of Georgia, and a retired educator who resides in Savannah initiated the construction of the monument. A COE alumna, Abigail Jordan’s greatest challenge was driving the movement to erect a monument to slaves in Savannah, even contributing more than $300,000 of her own money to the project. At the time Dr. Jordan began the process there were 42 monuments in Savannah, none of them were African-American monuments.
Also on July 28, between 5-7pm, individuals will be able to meet the various authors with a book signing reception. Books will be available for pur- chase and signing.
