Community Member to Raise Awareness for Stomach Cancer

On Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 with registration at 2:00 and walk starting at 3:00, local resident Denise Polote-Kelly along with family and friends will dedicate the day to Stomach Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the 5th Annual “Laps for Life” Stomach Cancer Walk. Winston H, Kelly, Sr. Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting research and empowering families affected by stomach cancer.

Stomach cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer death in the world with one million new cases diagnosed each year and more than 800,000 deaths annually. No Stomach for Cancer is an organization that fought for and won a US Senate resolution proclaiming November National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. Winston H. Kelly Memorial Foundation achieved the State of Georgia recognizes November as Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. Stomach cancer currently receives the least amount of federal funding per cancer death in the United States. A seemingly healthy man heard the words you have cancer. August 2011, Winston was diagnosed and October 2011 he passed. This cancer is a silent killer and is often Stage Four when diagnosed. Each day is an opportunity to encourage and educate in hope that a life will be saved through research but specific funding is paramount.

“As we meet more families affected by stomach cancer, we know that the need to raise awareness is more important than ever. Stomach Cancer Awareness Month gives people everywhere an opportunity to unite in support of research and education. Help us give a voice to this deadly silent killer”.

People are invited to walk or run, on Sunday, Nov. 13th Denise Polote-Kelly, family and friends plan to walk Forsyth Park, and would like to invite the community to show support for this cause by participating. The Walk/Run registration is $25.00 and participants receive a walk T- shirt, wristband and important stomach cancer awareness information. Proceeds raised will help support stomach cancer research, education and awareness.
