On Sunday, January 22nd at 5:00 PM , the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa hosted the Coastal Jazz Association Jazz Rent Party. This concert will feature national and international jazz musicians including; Kevin Bales from Atlanta , jazz pianist, Quentin Baxter, internationally renowned jazz drummer, Teddy Adams, renowned trombonist, and jazz legend, Ben Tucker on bass. Claire Frazier and Val Davis will drop by to sing.
The Coastal Jazz Association will pay homage to the “Telfair Jazz Society” which was the beginning of a re-energized jazz scene in Savannah and ultimately led to what is now the Coastal Jazz Association. In 1978, when Teddy Adams returned to the U.S. after serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan , he teamed up with Ben Tucker, who at that time was General Manager of WSOK Radio. They began the process of forming a mainstream jazz group called the Telfair Jazz Society. The popular musical group performed regularly on Sunday afternoons at the Telfair Museum .
The concert on January 22nd is free and open to the public. We are depending on the public to support the CJA financially for its survival to keep jazz alive. It is recommended that attendees offer a donation for attending the event. You can also make a pledge. Visa, MasterCard and checks are accepted. Money collected will go toward the Savannah Jazz Festival and producing the monthly concert series.
