Coastal Georgia Committed to Local Fight Against Breast Cancer

Financial barriers remain one of the most cited reasons women do not seek early breast cancer detection services in their community. In fact, did you know that nearly 40% of women over 40 in Coastal Georgia did not receive a mammogram in the last 12 months? Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coastal Georgia, also known as Komen Coastal Georgia, is committed to providing funding for local breast health education, screening and treatment programs for uninsured, underinsured and low-income residents in the 9 county area, including Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh.

Since its inception in 2006, Komen Coastal Georgia has invested over $1 million in local community programs with $250,000 going toward national research grants. Seventy five percent of every dollar raised by the Coastal Affiliate remains local to provide funding for life-saving breast health screenings, diagnostics and education.

In the past two years alone, local donations to Komen Coastal Georgia have funded 1,046 mammograms, 1,039 clinical breast exams and 424 diagnostic services resulting in the detection of 73 local breast cancer cases.

Komen Coastal Georgia strives to uphold the Komen promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing science to find cures. Thanks to the generous donations from local community members, corporate partners and thousands of participants in events like Rally for the Cure, Susan G. Komen Savannah Race for the Cure® and Passionately Pink, Komen Coastal Georgia is able to continue the fight against breast cancer.
