City Urges Residents to Take Cold- Weather Precautions

With colder, freezing temperatures expected across the region over the next few days, the City of Savannah urges residents to take precautions to protect their homes and life safety.

When temperatures drop below freezing, residents and business owners should refrain from outdoor watering. Water runoff can cause icy conditions, creating hazards for cars and pedestrians.

The City of Savannah will not water public property, pressure wash rights of way, or conduct fire hydrant testing when temperatures are freezing.

Residents can protect their plumbing by leaving a very slow drip from their faucets during freezing conditions. Doing so keeps water moving, preventing ice from forming in pipes, which causes them to crack.

Residents should also be careful when turning on space heaters, and ensure they are not set near flammable materials.
