City to Celebrate Naming of Sylvan Terrace Walking Trail

Join Alderman Dr. Estella Shabazz, City and Community Leaders as the City of Savannah will hold a ribbon-cutting event for the naming of the Sears-Richards Walking Trail at Sylvan Terrace Park. The event will be held Saturday, November 9th at 12 p.m. at the southwest corner of Sylvan Terrace Park.

Thomas Euric Sears was retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and Master Army Aviator from the United States Army. He served during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War receiving the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Bronze Star. The Late Colonel Sears and his family were the first African Americans to live in the Sylvan Terrace neighborhood. Colonel Sears worked for the City of Savannah as Director of the Model Cities Program.

World War II and Vietnam Veteran Chief Warrant Officer David F. Richards, Jr. was retired from the Army with 33 years of distinguished service, including a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart for heroic valor. The late Richards served the City of Savannah as Crime Prevention Analyst for the police department for 12 years.
