City Businesses to Meet on St. Pat’s Festival Outlines

ATown Hall Meeting to prepare businesses for the three-day St. Patrick’s Day festivities has been scheduled Thursday.

The meeting is being presented jointly by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, City Revenue Department, Savannah Fire Department, Georgia Department of Revenue, Chatham County Health Department, and Tourism and Film Office, along with the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Division.

It is being hosted by the Hyatt Hotel at 2 West Bay Street and begins at 10 a.m. in the Scarbrough Room on the first floor of the hotel. Attendees need not register in advance.

“We expect several hundred thousand visitors beginning March 17,” said Wilkins, who commands the Downtown Precinct. “During these festive times, the consumption of alcohol is prevalent and enforcement of alcohol regulations is paramount to maintain public safety and order.”

Among discussion items are the detailed obligations of businesses that provide alcohol and the regulatory agencies that will enforce the laws and ordinances.

“Our plan is to create a co-operative effort to reduce alcohol-related issues,” Wilkins said. “We ask establishments and their employees to take alcohol service seriously and to be cautious when selling and serving beverages. We hope to avoid the consequences of violating the laws, ordinances and regulations or taking the matters lightly.”
