Chatham Retired Educators Hold Meeting, Read to Students

Protocol was established by our president, Mrs. Virginia Edwards. Retiree Jeanette Scott brought an interesting inspirational. The wearing of the green was in keeping with the Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration. It was discovered that we had one new member in our midst, Mrs. Queen Barnes. Aside from two March Birthmonth Celebrants, namely; Mrs. Katherine Redden and Mrs. Betty Ellington. We wished them well. Last month’s minutes were read and the Treasurer’s report were given as information and approved.

Our committee chairpersons reported in depth. Several of our retirees reported to East Broad Street School to read to some of the students last month.

The Publicity Chairperson completed the Publicity Book; turned it over to President Edwards and she forwarded it on to the State Department for evaluation. The Necrology Chairperson turned in seven names of deceased retirees namely; Mrs. Louvinia Countess Young Merriman, Elder George Everett, Mrs. Ruth B. Williams, Mr. William Gerken, Mr. Jack H. Wynne, Mrs. Vernell Gardener and Mr. Thomas Klein. A silent prayer was said in their honor.

Mrs. Lisa Singrela the Executive Director of the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority was our guest speaker. She shared with us awesome slide presentation. It depicted the futuristic plans from 52nd Street over to the coastal area of the Savannah River. She stated that the plans are to commence this Summer with its Historic Patterns in mind.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2010, at the regular meeting place; Carey Hilliard’s on Abercorn Extension. Time: 10:30 until 12:00 noon. The cost is $14.00, this includes the lunch and a ticket for a prize. The other will go to the Scholarship Fund.
