Al Scott defeated his Republican opponent Eddie DeLoach in the race for Chairman of Chatham County Commissioners, replacing outgoing Chairman Pete Liakakis.
Scott had earned 52 percent of the votes.
Scott is a retired executive who worked for Union Camp and International Paper for over 35 years, has served 16 years in the Georgia House and State Senate. In the District 6 commission race, Republican Lori Brady defeated Democrat Willie Brown.
Former chief assistant prosecutor Meg Daly Heap defeated incumbent Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm. Heap will become the first woman to hold the office. Heap had more than 56 percent of the vote to Chisolm’s total of just more than 44 percent. Heap was surrounded by family and supporters as they watched the results on last Tuesday evening from the Mulberry Inn.
In a very close race, Al St Lawrence was elected to his sixth term as Chatham County sheriff. St. Lawrence received just more than 50 percent of the vote. St Lawrence,
78 years old, won over Democratic challenger McArthur Holmes.
In the race for Superior Court Clerk, Daniel Massey retained his seat winning over Tawanna Garrett.
