The Chatham County Health Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Dr. Martha B. Fay Public Health Center located on Sallie Mood Dr. directly behind the old building located on Eisenhower.

The new facility opened in May, but administrators hosted an open house on Monday for the public. The 33,000 square foot building is home to multiple exam rooms for children and adult health services, family planning services, vital records, immunization and the Women, Infant and Children’s program.

The facility is dedicated to Dr. Martha B. Fay who served the citizens of Chatham County for more than 40 years. Her daughter, Mary Fay Nelson, said this is an excellent way to honor her mother’s legacy. “My mother really cared about people and that they should have good healthcare.”

“The old facility was built 52 years ago, it was pretty dilapidated. The systems were failing so it was time to upgrade,” Randy McCall, an administrator with the health department said.
