On December 16, 2010, Department of Human Services announced the appointment of Stanley Walthour as the new permanent Director for the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and Maureen McFadden to the position of Deputy Director.

Walthour, a native Savannahnian, is a 30+ year veteran of the Department of Family Services, beginning his career in Chatham County and working in various capacities.

Prior to his interim appointment in Chatham County in January 2010, Mr. Walthour was the Director of the Bryan County DFCS.

McFadden, formerly Social Services Director at Chatham DFCS, is a resultsoriented social worker with eleven years experience in child welfare and over eight years in management.

Van R. Johnson, II, Chairperson of the Chatham County DFCS Board said, “I am elated that Commissioner Walker has accepted the Board’s unanimous recommendation of Mr. Walthour to serve in this position.

Mr. Walthour has worked hard and served well to stabilize a very delicate situation of increasing needs and declining funds. He is a native Savannahian and a product of the very agency he has been chosen to lead. Together with Ms. McFadden, we finally have a strong team in place to support our staff as we aggressively serve families and children.”
