Chance Wins SIAC Cross Country Title

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference held their annual cross country championships on November 4 at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course at Middle Georgia State University.

Senior Kayla Chance of Savannah State led the women’s field of 86 by finishing first with a time of 19:32.23 in the 5K and was named the 2022 SIAC Runner of the Year. Chance was joined by teammate Sky Buie-Cox (21:45.80) who finished 10th.

Benedict won the women’s team title with 26 points. Savannah State placed fourth with 113 points.

Chance will run in the 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country South Regional Championship on Nov. 19 in Lakeland, Florida at the Holloway Park & Nature Preserve.

The SSU men were sixth with 185 points. Erik Roberts led the Tigers with a time of 30:23.29. Morehouse won the team title, their 25th, with 31 points in the 8k event.
