Students in BRAVO, Inc. (Black Youth Reaching to Achieve in Vocal and Orchestral Music) Music Company and SONATA, Inc. (Students of New and Talented Artists), participated in a musical workshop that was presented by MusicAlive, a string chamber ensemble comprised of nationally renowned musicians. The workshop was held Saturday, September 12 at the ConEd Resource Center, Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.

The Music Director of BRAVO, Mrs. Rose M. Smith, the President of BRAVO, Mrs. Johnye Gillans and the President of SONATA, Mrs. Lillian Ellis, collaborated for MusicAlive to present the workshop to their students.

The workshop began with the first movement of Ravel’s String Quartet performed by Catherine Miller, violinist, who is currently with the New World Symphony and a graduate of The Juilliard School; Celeste Golden, violinist, who is currently with the St. Louis Symphony and a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music; Marisa Bushman, violist, who is currently with the New World Symphony and graduate of University of California Los Angeles; and Susie Yang, cellist, who is currently with San Diego Symphony and graduate of The Juilliard School.

These players, as well as Joseph Conyers, bassist, who is currently with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music, were the clinicians.
