Beach High School’s January, June and August Classes of 1946, held their Annual Christmas Fellowship Luncheon at Johnny Harris Banquet Room on Wednesday December 29th, 2010 at 1 pm. More than fifty classmates and family members gathered in a festive atmosphere to renew old acquaintances and to reminisce about years gone by.
The Classes of 1946 were honored by Dr. Lester “Chief” Johnson, when he named them the “Pace Setters”, because they were the first Beach High Class to hold a reunion.
Aperiod of 65 years after graduation has taken its toll on class members. Yet, they still come to bi-annual reunions, an annual church worship service and an annual Christmas Fellowship Luncheon.
Some come with the aid of walking sticks, wheel chairs and even with care givers. But they come!
Among the class members enjoying the luncheon were, Rev. and Mrs. M. S. Brown, Sr., Deacon & Mrs. John Austin, Deacon Raleigh Stevens, George Turner, Lorenza Sexton, Dr. William H. Bland, Walter & Mary Simmons, Adele Black, Janie Bowers, Jessie DeLoach, Lola Dixon, Helen Bryant, Rosa Truedell, Adele Black, Queen Bing, Herman & Dorothy Drayton, Christine Blackshear, Verna Piggler, Louise Phillips, Jessie & Nathalie Reynolds and Felix and Gloria Villarin.
Especially significant about this class is the involvement of their children and grand children in the activities of the class. Serving as hostesses and receiving class members and guest were Mrs. Pamala Gabriel and Mrs. Lorraine Walker, daughters of Class president, Lillie Palmer.
Preparing and extending gifts to class members and guest were Mrs. Valeria Darby and her son Tim Darby, 11, daughter and grandson of Jessie and Nathalie Reynolds.
Mrs. Marjorie Mitchell, also a daughter of Jessie and Nathalie Reynolds, rendered a beautiful solo. There were other children and grand children among the guest.
Adele Oliver led an inspirational program with Deacon John Austin giving the prayer and blessing. Jessie Deloach presented the occasion. Janie Baker Bowers gave the memorial tribute. Pastor Brown gave the closing prayer with a special prayer for Harry Ladson, Luncheon Chair.
After the program, a bountiful and tasty seafood buffet was enjoyed by all.
