Pastor Doreen Smalls and the members of Asbury United Methodist Church, 1201 Abercorn Street cordially invite family, friends, former students of Rev. Elliott Sams, Sr. and the community to its 143rd Church Anniversary, Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Our theme this year is “Dwelling In God’s Presence As One Body In Christ” The guest minister will be Rev. Elliott Sams, Sr. of Collierville Tennessee.
A native of Cavesprings, Georgia, Rev. Elliott Sams, Sr. attended the Cavesspring Public Schools. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Savannah State College, a Master’s Degree from Savannah Graduate Center, a Reading Specialist Degree from the University of Georgia, and a Masters of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary. In 1993, he became the pastor of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Savannah, Georgia until his retirement in 1999. He is presently serving as Associate Minister of Outreach and Evangelism at Burdette United Methodist Church, Memphis Tennessee.
Rev. Sams has made an indelible mark in our community. Rev. Sams has served on many organizations, committees and board memberships while residing in Savannah, Georgia.
He is married to Bathseba Thompson-Sams, and they are the proud parents of three children and have five grandchildren.
