Antioch Foot & Ankle Group continues its commitment to give back to Savannah and the Low Country. Dr. Kristian Jeffress and Jacqueline Tomlin talked to Residents of River’s Edge Retirement Homes about living with diabetes. Ms. Tomlin, also an Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), shared educational information about eating healthy and various ways to stay physically fit. She told the group that if they have family members with diabetes, that they may be more susceptible to the condition and gave questions to ask that serve as indicators. The operative word is “Move” Ms. Tomlin told the group. According to the ADA, everyone needs at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. She suggested 10 minute spurts if unable to do 30 minutes at a time. “If you have to sit in a chair, move your arms. Walk while talking on the phone. Clean the house or work in the garden. Just MOVE”, said Ms. Tomlin. Dr. Jeffress stressed the importance of seeing a podiatrist if you have diabetes. She showed a variety of the diabetic shoes and foot care products sold at Antioch’s Sole to Soul Solutions Shoe Store, located in their office. The group was shown a video of Dr. Jeffress trimming a corn for a patient. All residents were invited to visit Antioch Foot and Ankle Group for all of their foot care need. Antioch wants to be a “Blessing To Your Feet”.
