My name is Dasnee Bailey and I am a senior at Windsor Forest High School. This past spring I had the opportunity to travel on one of the best trips ever. While in school, I participate in a program called International baccalaureate (IB Program). This program allows high school students like me to take advance classes. Because of this program, a group of 6 students from my school traveled to Italy during spring break. The major cities we visited were Venice, Florence, and Rome. We also made some small stops in a small Italian village and Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis. In Venice, we visited one of the biggest glass making businesses in Italy and even watched a demonstration of how they created the glassware.
Next we traveled to Florence. We took tours of different churches in the city. We visited a leather company where they showed us how to recognize genuine leather. They also showed us how they create some of their products such as leather jewelry boxes. After Florence we visited a local village to try shopping and eating in a place with fewer tourists than bigger Italian cities. The next day we headed to Assisi where we took a tour of the Basilica of San Francesco. The last city we visited was Rome. Here we visited the Coliseum and The Roman Forum, the heart of the ancient Roman city ruins.
This was the most exciting trip I have taken so far. I got to meet new people and experience different cultures. I hope someday in the near future, I will have another opportunity to travel to even more distant countries.
