The American Traditions Competition (ATC) announces the 28 successful contestants who will compete for the Courtney Knight Gaines Foundation Gold Medal Award during the last week of February 2015. Artistic Consultant for the ATC, Vale Ridout, said “We received over one hundred applications from artists hoping to appear in the quarter finals and we have a stringent assessment process, so to be selected for the ATC is an achievement in itself.”
The ATC showcases contestants performing American Music from a wide range of distinct genres which must have been composed by an American Composer (either natural born or naturalized American citizens). Contestants choose nine songs from which three programs must be presented. These programs are what the applicant plans to sing in each of three rounds of the competition.
President of the ATC, Susan Kleine commented “The calibre of applicants to the ATC this year was extremely high and February 23-27 promises to be a thrilling week as we hear the best of classic American music performed by 28 individual vocalists as they compete for the range of awards from our total prize fund of $40,000. We would urge people to buy tickets now while they are still available – especially for the judges concert and finals.”
