The Delta Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., sponsored a community service event on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the home of Lillian Holmes at 802 Carter St.

Members of the fraternity gave her home an exterior make-over with coats of fresh paint.

“This project is in line with our mission statement of providing service and advocacy for our communities,” said Marcus Stallworth, Chapter President.

The mission of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.: develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Founded on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans.

Stallworth said the chapter was excited about being able to provide assistance and help to a local senior citizen.
