Alair Homes Savannah + Sulfur Studios Present: An Art on the Porch Project

Sulfur Studios is excited to team with Alair Homes Savannah to bring a new venue for visual art to Starland’s First Friday. Through a Call for Proposals, artists were encouraged to present their plans for a site-specific installation for the front porch of the Alair Savannah headquarters, located at the corner of Drayton and 41st Street. Artists were prompted to think conceptually on the theme of HOME. From those entries, Kench Lott Weathers has been selected to showcase a custom piece for November First Friday and is the recipient of a $500 grant provided by Alair Homes Savannah.

The artwork, titled Sehnsücht, will be unveiled with an industry-specific event on November 1st from 5:30 – 6:30PM and open for the public to experience starting on November 1st at 6PM as part of First Fridays in Starland. With the nature of the work, this piece will be up through the month of November and shifting its look depending on the time of day. We encourage passer bys to not only drive by the piece but also to walk around and through the installation.

Jennifer Moss, Studio & Exhibitions Coordinator at Sulfur Studios says, “The high visibility location makes for a great opportunity for both the artist and the neighborhood. The generous grant from Alair means the selected artist will receive a stipend for their work in addition to great exposure.”

“We love having our office in the Starland district amidst other creative innovators and artists,” exclaims, Walter Strong, owner of Alair Homes Savannah. “This collaborative project showcases the flavor and flair of our community and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

“As an avid art collector and appreciator, it is a joy to be able to put my passion for art into a grant for a local working artist to create something beautiful.” Jessica Leavitt, Regional community manager at Alair said. “I’m also so happy to use this as a jumping off point for us as a company to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood.”
