Sigma Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated believe in providing service to all mankind. With the holiday season here and many families in need of Thanksgiving dinners, Sigma Tau members stepped to the need.
They met on Saturday, November 19, 2011 and made baskets for two families in the East Savannah area. Included in the baskets were hams, canned vegetables, macaroni & cheese, cake / pie, fruits, a case of soft drinks and much more to make sure that each family had a big Thanksgiving meal.
Afterward, they delivered the baskets. The families were surprised of the visits. Ms. Ruth White and her children were very appreciative of the donation of the basket.
“It makes us feel good to help these families during the holidays”, said Alicia Fultz, president of Sigma Tau Chapter.
After leaving the homes, the members then travelled to Memorial University Medical Center and met with Ms. Annie Hitt, Child Life Advocate. They discussed the need of providing joy to the little patients in the Pediatric Unit by presenting them with “teddy bears” to comfort them during their stay in the hospital.
It means a lot for the little ones to have something to cuddle while undergoing treatment. The department was very grateful for the donation of the teddy bears. Members present were Andrea Johnson, Chelsea Larkins, Ellen Evans, Jontavia Branson, Laveda Farrior, Nicole Neal, Sydnei Bacon, Sharon Stallings (Assistant Graduate Advisor) and Audrey B. Singleton (Graduate Advisor).
