Susan G. Komen Coastal Georgia hosted a new event to celebrate the 2018 class of Big Wigs and to crown the ‘Biggest Big Wig’ fundraiser of the campaign. Big Wigs are local VIPs in Savannah and Brunswick who have donned bright pink wigs, all in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Susan G. Komen Coastal Georgia and its vision of a world without breast cancer.
‘For our fifth year of the Big Wig campaign, we wanted to do something really unique and fun,’ said Komen Coastal Georgia Executive Director Aileen Gabbey. ‘This has been an amazing group of leaders who have raised thousands of dollars to fight breast cancer. We celebrated all their hard work at the Big Wig Boat Bash last Thursday on the Georgia Queen Riverboat. Boston (Derst Hardscape Design) was crowned 2018 Biggest Big Wig after raising over $34,828. In close second place was Karen Guinn (Collective Marketing), who raised $34,813. In all, the six-week campaign raised over $150,000! “Our Savannah and Brunswick Big Wigs had a goal to raise just over $70,000 during the campaign, so they more than doubled that” said Gabbey.
The Best Pink Personality was Dr. Jason Umfress for most enthusiasm. The Pink Ribbon Award was given to Tom Cullen for best use of the mission in his fundraising.
