2017-2018 Chatham County Youth Commission Sworn In!

Friday, September 22, 2017 during the Chatham County Commission meeting, the Honorable Al Scott, Chairman of the Chatham County Commission gave the oath of office to 37 Chatham County Youth Commissioners, appointing them to serve as the representatives of youth of Chatham County. 22 of these young people are new candidates and 15 are returning for another term.

The Youth Commission was founded by Dr. Priscilla D. Thomas in 1992. 2017 summer activities included tours of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Chatham County Detention Center, Memorial Health, Chatham Area Transit and attendance at the Chatham County Commission and Savannah City Council meetings. Since it’s inception, over 600 Chatham County youth have graduated from the program and are all over the country doing positive

things and are active in the communities in which they live.

The Chatham County Commission Cabinet includes Chair – Nisi King, Vice Chair – Riche’ Williams, Secretary – Lydia Poole, Parliamentarian – A’lani Coppock, Executive Members – Aniah Daniels, Ahmad O’Neal, Nykobe Richardson. Others include: Domonique Barnes, Kayah Brantley, Michaela Bryant, Lindsey Dixon, Madison Dubroc, Aisha Duck, Jonathan Gibson, Stacey Golden, Kyra Harris, Anna Hill, Martin Hina, Sahera Howard, Shaniyah Howard, Amaya James, Samantha Jenkins, Jhalael Jones, Michaela Kaigler, Aundrea Linton, Auriel Lofton, Maria Lotson, Catherine Morris, Jada Mosely, Jared Pacheco, Langston Redden, Gabrielle Sanders, Kaydriana Simpson,

Jaidyn Smokes, Illya Snyder, and Rio Washington.

This program has been replicated in Fulton County (Atlanta), GA, Alachua County (Gainesville), FL, Savannah, GA (Savannah Youth Council), Prince George’s County, MD, Cass County (Fargo), ND and Dougherty County, (Albany), GA, Riverdale, GA and Newnan, GA, Miami-Dade County, FL, DeKalb County, GA and Jasper County, SC.
