Known as one of the most tantalizing food festivals in the Southeast, “Shrimp & Grits: The Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival” on Jekyll Island is a true playground for good and tasty times. Locals and visitors alike will help fill the island’s National Historic Landmark District for a weekend stuffed to the gills with fun activities for all ages. The festival will take place September 18th-20th, 2015.
Activities this year include a competition to be staged behind the historic Morgan Center. The competition is broken up into two divisions, amateur (September 19th) and professional (September 20th), so anyone can enter. Awards and cash prizes will be given to the top three finalists in each division. Professional chefs will judge both competitions, while festivalgoers will have the opportunity to cast “consumer choice” votes for their favorite dishes.
Located on the main lawn in the Historic District, restaurants and catering companies from the Golden Isles will be showing off their cooking chops with signature shrimp and grits dishes, along with other favorites, throughout the weekend. That Friday will be Sample Night, where festival attendees are available to sample each restaurant signature dish.
While you enjoy the food there will live entertainment, different tents to attend, and arts and crafts vendors. The kids will also have a great time as a united way kid zone will be set up for face painting, rock climbing, and zip lining.
