Dr. Kathy S. Love, Savannah Tech President

Dr. Kathy Love Dr. Kathy Love Kathy S. Love was appointed president of Savannah Technical College in January 2009. Since her arrival, Dr. Love has led the College through a period of rapid growth, with STC being named one of the fastest growing two-year colleges of its size in the country by Community College Magazine. Because of her leadership, the College has expanded its program offerings while focusing on efficiency and customer service. Love is proud of her contributions to Savannah Tech.

“We broke ground on the long-awaited Aviation Training Center at our Crossroads Campus. Construction is well underway and the center should be ready for classes January of 2013,” Love said. “Our transfer of the Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene from Armstrong Atlantic State University has gone extremely well and we are currently mid-way through construction of a new Dental Hygiene Clinic located on our main campus.”

Love’s leadership has resulted in the educational and physical growth of Savannah tech.

“We cut the ribbon on our Student Enrichment Center, a great example of public/private (State of Georgia and STC Foundation) funding of a much-needed facility to house our Adult Education, Learning Support, English as a Second Language, and Learning Enrichment Center services for our students,” Love said. “We received a $250,000 PBI (Predominantly Black Institution) Title III grant which enabled us to greatly enhance the technology used to deliver instruction in our Industrial Technology programs.” She has guided STC’s towards its main focus: student enhancement.

“As a part of the Governor’s Complete College Georgia initiative, we want to put interventions in place that will support our students through graduation with us and will also allow for reverse transfer of coursework from universities allowing students who otherwise may complete their higher education experience without a degree to come to STC, transfer in the appropriate coursework, and graduate from one of our associate degree programs,” Love said.

She has held numerous leadership positions within the Technical College System of Georgia during her 25 year career. Love served as the president of Flint River Technical College from 2002 until her appointment to Savannah Technical College in 2009. She was the vice president of instructional and student services at Middle Georgia Technical College from 1994 to 2001 and vice president of administrative services at South Georgia Technical College from 1990 to 1994.

Throughout her career, Love has devoted much of her spare time to active involvement in civic, business and charitable organizations in the communities served by her colleges.
