Five Men on a Stool Grand Festival Day, Savannah Civic Center The highlight of the annual Savannah Black Heritage Festival, Grand Festival Day includes an array of family-oriented activities, concluding with a star-studded concert.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Annual Health Fair. Sponsored by the St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital Systems and its African-American Health Information and Resource Center, WellCare of Georgia, the American Diabetes Association and Amerigroup Community Care. First-floor lobby
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. “Help Your Body Get Its Move On”, interactive dance exercises choreographed by local students, Civic Center Ballroom-3rd Floor
11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sankofa African-American Museum on Wheels, a detailed display of artifacts commencing with the Middle Passage (slavery) highlights African Americans’ inventions. Mason Room
Dwele 1 – 3:30 p.m. African American Living and Learning Crafts Village: Crafts and Culinary Arts workshops. Reservations required; call 912-358-3370. 1-3:30 p.m. Children’s Reading Circle led by author Calvin Ramsey and book illustrator/publisher Janice Shay, followed by a book-signing at 4 p.m. in the vending area on the arena floor.
1 – 2 p.m. Financial Planning. Second floor, DeVeaux Room
1 – 2:30 p.m. Local Authors Corner. Self-published authors will discuss writing, publishing and marketing book sales and challenges as book authors, followed by book-signings and sales at 3 p.m. in the vending area on the arena floor. Second floor, Bryan Room
2 p.m. Carver State Bank 85th Anniversary Celebration is a “Salute to Black Businesses” with special guest, National Bankers Association President Michael A. Grant. Ballroom, 3rd floor
3:30 p.m. Grand Festival Day Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: activities and local performances begin in the MLK Jr. Arena (Hosted by Magic Marc and featuring RJ & the Upbeats, and others)
4 p.m. Youth Talent Extravaganza sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Savannah Alumnae Chapter
p.m. Live concerts begin with local talent, followed by neo-soul recording artist Dwele and Atlanta-based Five Men on a Stool
