Today, cancer is a major threat to all our health, and a lot of people are paying attention. New research is always being conducted to find out more about cancer and looking for cures.
We know that cancer starts at the division of damaged
DNA. Those new, abnormal cells begin to grow wild and uncontrolled.
How to prevent cancer is a major concern for all. We know that an unhealthy lifestyle causes cancer. The major contributors are the foods we eat. So let’s look at some of the best cancer fighting foods.
1. Beans, legumes, and peas. The active ingredients in beans that scientists believe play a big role in cancer prevention include: saponins, protease inhibitors and phyticacid.
2. Berries are good sources of vitamin C and fiber. foods high in vitamin C protect against cancer of the esophagus, while foods containing dietary fiber decrease colorectal cancer risk.
3. Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, bok choy and kale. These nonstarchy vegetables, protect against cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, and stomach.
4. Flaxseed is available as flaxseed flour, flaxseed meal (which has the texture of cornmeal), flaxseed oil and whole flaxseeds. The whole seeds are not digested well, so they provide little nutritional or health benefits unless they are ground. 5. Garlic of the Allium family, which also includes onions, scallions, leeks and chives.Studies show that foods belonging to the allium family of vegetables protect against stomach cancer. The experts suggest including garlic as part of a well-balanced predominantly plant-based diet.
6. Grapes and Grape Juice are rich sources of resveratrol, a natural phytochemical that belongs to a much larger group of phytochemicals called polyphenols. The skin of the grape contains the most resveratrol, and red and purple grapes contain significantly more resveratrol than green grapes.
7. Green Tea - Since ancient times, tea has been used as a beverage and a medicine. Both black and green teas contain numerous active ingredients, including polyphenols and flavonoids, which are potent antioxidants.
8. Tomatoes’ red hue comes primarily from a phytochemical called lycopene. Tomatoes have attracted particular attention in prostate cancer studies because lycopene and its related compounds tend to concentrate in tissues of the prostate. And shows substantial and convincing evidence that foods containing lycopene protect against prostate cancer.
9. Whole Grains - The term “whole grain” means that all three parts of the grain kernel, are included. Refined grains usually have the bran and germ removed, leaving only the starchy endosperm. Brown rice is a whole grain, white rice is not. Other wholegrain foods include wheat breads, rolls, pasta and cereals; whole grain oat cereals such as oatmeal, popcorn, wild rice, tortilla and tortilla chips, kasha, and tabouleh.
10. Banana contains an anticancer substance which can improve our immunity and increase the white blood cell count.
11. Citrus fruits - Many of us think of beta carotene only in carrots, but in fact orange contain 15 times more. The sweeter the fruits are, the higher the carotene content.
12. Figs function as a stomach cleanser, to absorb and discharge harmful substances.
13. Kiwi Fruits content of vitamin C is 30 times higher than of the apple and 60 times higher than grapes. It also contains enzymes which makes the kiwi an effective cancer fighter.
14. Almonds contain vitamin B 17, known as the "killer" for cancer cell. Now, use your diet to prevent and to fight cancer. My mom would say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
