Savannah State University President Earl G. Yarbrough, Sr., Ph.D., and more than a dozen university administrators, staff, alumni and friends gathered Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, for a formal dedication ceremony for the new Tiger Express Diner on the SSU campus.

Tiger Express Diner, which replaces the snack kiosks housed in Jordan and most recently in Tiger Arena, gives the 3,800-plus Savannah State students a genuine dining venue on the west end of the campus.

Menu options include biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and burgers, fish sandwiches and fries for lunch and dinner. Salads, sandwiches, fruit cups and bottled drinks are also available in the diner's Outtakes area.

Classic Stainless Steel Diners, Inc., based in Atlanta, delivered and assembled in May the two modular units that make up the diner. Unlike typical stainless-steel diners, the mostly brick exterior of Tiger Express resembles the brick and stone colors of the Social Sciences Building. The $900,000 diner project was funded by the SSU Real Estate Foundation LLC, Inc., and SSU Auxiliary Services. Several foundation members also attended the dedication ceremony.
