Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, Inc. to hold Luncheon and Program

The Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, Inc. will hold its annual Luncheon and Program on September 18, 2010. Sickle Cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder affecting people of all races.

Those suffering from this disease may experience debilitating pain, stroke, anemia, jaundice, gallstones, and damage to the lungs, kidneys, bones and spleen. Unfortunately, there is currently no universal cure for sickle cell disease.

In 1978, after many years of continuous hard work and much effort, the Chatham County Health Department, United Way, and the Economic Opportunity Authority combined their efforts to create a Sickle Cell program in Savannah which later resulted in the Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, Inc.

The association is a non-profit organization, dedicated to educating, counseling and advocating health care and supportive services to persons and families affected by sickle cell disease. The association takes necessary actions to help patients and their families live as healthy and comfortable a life as is humanly possible.

For more information concerning sickle cell, donating an ad space or luncheon tickets, please call Caryn L. Brown at (912) 659-4919, or email lorelle@bellsouth.net, or call Josey Sheppard at (912) 308- 4107.

On behalf of the board members of the Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, thank you in advance for your support and kindness.
