DuPont, Jones Wed

Mr. and Mrs. Derrick Jones Mr. and Mrs. Derrick Jones Versonya M. DuPont and Derrick W. Jones were joined in holy matrimony on Saturday, July 3,2010 at 11a.m.

Versonya is a native of Savannah and the only daughter of Donald and Versie DuPont. Derrick is a native of Toms River, NJ and the son of Bobby Barksdale and Blanche Jones. A private garden wedding was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Lemuel Campbell, godparents of the bride. An elegant reception was held at 1 p.m. at the Hunter Club with over 200 guests in attendance.

The wedding ceremony was a unique family affair. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and two brothers, Donald Leonard DuPont and Dwayne Laron DuPont, and given away by her parents and brothers. The mother of the bride proudly served as the matron of honor and the father of the groom stood as the best man.

Bridesmaids in attendance were Tonja Campbell Smith, godsister of the bride, of Humphries, VA; Deirdre Pinkney, friend of the bride, of Atlanta; Brendesha Tynes, friend of the bride, of Chicago and Sadonna Clarke, friend of the bride, of Atlanta.

Groomsmen included Dennis Adams, friend of the groom, of Toms River; Mark Worthy, friend of the groom, of Toms River and Bobby Smith, brother of the groom, of Nashville.

Other attendants included Chandler DuPont and Jasmine Mobley as flower girls, Darius Adams as ringbearer, and cousins of the bride served as ushers: Greg Smith, Katr~na Hicks, Ashleigh Hicks and Trevon Hicks. The awesome wedding coordinator/directress was Sharon Smith, also a cousin of the bride. Special thanks are given to Annette Mitchell who served as the wedding decorator and Makeba Matthews of Divas Delites who served as the baker.

Several bridal events were held during the couple’s engagement period. Samantha Pitre hosted a bridal tea, underwritten by bridesmaids, in Brooklyn for friends of the bride in New York in May. The Queens Empire Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD), a service organization to which the bride has been a member since 2004, hosted a bridal shower on Long Island in June.

The Savannah Chapter of TLOD, to which the bride was a former Top Teen, organized a lunch with members of the Savannah chapter. The final event was a bridal shower hosted by the bridesmaids at the Savannah Tea Room.

The bride pursued her BS and MS at Clark Atlanta University and her Ph.D. at Northwestern University. She has seven years experience in the field of education technology providing teacher professional development, curriculum design consultation and independent evaluation services at the K12 and university level.

The groom is a professional driver with Swift Transportation. The couple honeymooned in Myrtle Beach and ROW resides in Brooklyn, NY.
