Easy Summer Eating
I hear people say all the time that they try to eat right, but, somehow, “I just can’t keep my numbers down with the meds.” And the reason is sometimes we’ve got bad information about what’s good, and what’s not. When shopping for groceries, we see labels that say ‘heart healthy’, ‘good for you’, approved by AMA, ADA, or some other group. But the facts are that the item may contain hydrogenated fats, hidden sugars, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, and chemicals that are harmful in ways even some scientists don’t understand. Couple that with the fact that the product maybe totally void of any nutrient the body can actually use, only compounds health problems, and makes them worst. Now, kids or out of school for the summer, families prepare for vacations and travel, and concern for a healthy diet goes to the back of the mind. It’s all hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, sodas and ice cream. Treats for all. This however is the time we see more illness, more diabetes

Carolyn Guilford, CNC Carolyn Guilford, CNC See Health Restoration, out of control, heart attacks, strokes, and deaths from the complications of these unnecessary problems.

Summer time is the best time of the year, and easiest time to eat an easy, lite and healthy, and filling diet. Count no calories and do little to no cooking. Just some light, cool cutting and chopping to prep foods. Then keep bowls of fresh fruits and veggies in the fridge.

Eating the 10 - 13 servings of fruits and vegetables, in salads and smoothies, fruit compotes and fruits drinks, can change your life for the better. Add in homemade lemon-aid, a hand full of nuts daily, and lots of water, is the way to go for easy meals all summer. Healthy and energizing, and quick.

Plan healthy meals once a week and shop for what you need, loading up on the produce for a healthy summer. Shop for fresh veggies and fruit as often as you need to.

Never buy too much, it will spoil too quickly. Shop for nutritional value over artificially enhanced taste and convenience. This alone could save your life.

Have an abundance of fruit with breakfast, a great salad for lunch with all your favorite veggies; broccoli, onions, peppers, corn, garlic and carrots, are my favorites. Add lean meat or a boiled egg to your dinner salad and then fruit again for dessert. If you follow this program, you’ll have the healthiest summer ever, for you and your charges. And, when the summer is over, there’ll be no turning back.

Limit the doughnuts, cookies, deli meats, fried meats, packaged foods, sodas and sugar. And totally skip anything that might not be fully cooked or poorly handled, or left out too long. Or, if you are at all uncomfortable about it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Lastly, don’t let your body get dehydrated. Drink lots of water, even more than you think you need. You’ll think better, and your brain will be happy.
