100th Year Celebration and Family Reunion
Edward Vaughn
Edward Vaughn, was born June 28, 1910 to Joesiah and Eliza Vaughn, in Brunson South Carolina. He was the fifth child of twelve children, with six sisters and five brothers.
Like most children in farming communities he could not wait to leave Brunson.
As a teen, he moved to Savannah in 1926. Edward Vaughn began to work as a delivery boy while attending Paulsen Street School. Later he began to work in Food Service. Some of the places'he worked were: Club Royal, Johnny Harris Plantation Inn,Old Desoto Sapphire Room Savannah Hotel, Hester's Restaurant Tassey's Pier Shipyard(briefly). He also worked in a Dry Cleaning business with his brother Billy.
Edward is a pleasant person, very cordial and polite. He married Ruth Harmon on March 19, 1934. Three children were born to this union, Edward, Robert and Jacqueline (Jackye).
Edward is a member of Bethel AME Church, where he has served for 80 years. Recently, he was honored with the Faith and Service Award for his participation in the Church. For 17 years he lived in West Savannah, then moved to the Eastside of Savannah.
He has resided for the last 53 years in the Second District. He is affiliated with Neighborhood Midtown Association and is active with the Mary Flournoy Senior Citizens Center. He has remained agile and continued to do his home maintenance until recently.
According to his three children, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grand, 4 great great grands, 1 sister, 1 brother, 20 nieces, and nephews and a host of cousins and friends, he is· in fact the best old man that's ever been.
On June 28, 2010 he will celebrate his 100th birthday. All of us give thanks to God for allowing us the opportunity to share in his life and we wish him many, many, many more years!
