Savannah Chapter #159, O.E.S., Prince Hall Honored

Phyllis Spann On March 30, 2010, responding to an invitation by State Representative Mickey Stephens, District 161;several members of Savannah Chapter #159 traveled to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.

Representative Stephens and his staff were extremely gracious hosts and the group was treated like royalty. The invitation included a visit to Governor Sonny Perdue's Chambers.

Sister Ella Scott was recognized and presented the “Georgia Citizenship Award” in the form of a Resolution for her years of dedication to her church, family, community and to Savannah Chapter#159 O.E.S.

Brenda Pough, Worthy Matron Brenda Pough, Worthy Matron On behalf of Savannah Chapter #159, Worthy Matron Brenda Pough, accepted House Resolution 1473 from the House of Representatives, which included the following statement: “Now Therefore be it resolved the members of this body recognize and commend Savannah Chapter #159 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall for its many contributions to the Savannah Community.” Both Resolutions were presented on the floor in the House of Representative's Chamber.

Worthy Matron Pough gave a stirring speech of greetings and appreciation with a resounding response from the body of state Representatives. District Matron Eddie Lee Marsh joined the Chapter in welcoming Grand Worthy Matron Marilyn Moore and Grand Worthy Patron Marvin Knight as honored guest to share for the historic occasion.

“We are forever grateful to Rep. Mickey Stephens for his invitation. Savannah Chapter #159 officers and members, with full humility, consider it an honor and a privilege to receive such prestigious recognition and awards for supporting the Savannah community through service,” Pough said.
