Walter Moore Walter Moore Tigers Send Three To Track Regional

Three members of the Savannah State track team have qualified for the NCAA East Regional which will run May 27-29 on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC. Qualifying from SSU were Sharonda Redfield (triple jump), Amara Jones (200m and 400m) and Eric Plump (100m and 200m). This is the first time in school history that a female has qualified for this post-season race, according to head coach Ted Whitaker. Plump makes a return to the East regional after running in the 200m last year.

Dixon Makes Football Staff Changes

Savannah State interim football coach has made some position changes in the Tigers coaching staff. Eddie Johnson has been moved to coach the linebackers and Barry Casterlin has moved from running back coach to defensive line coach. Dixon will continue as defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Alan Hall will operate as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach while John Montgomery (offensive line) and Hans Batichon (wide receivers) will continue their roles with the offensive unit.

SSU Golf Finishes 6th

The Savannah State men's golf team finished 6th at the 24th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships held in Port St. Lucie, FL. As a team, SSU shot 930. Individual low medalist for the Tigers were Dominique Worthern who shot 223. Following Worthern were Daniel Hanania (231), Tripp Walker (238), Ricky Williams (242) and Peter Teifer (243). Texas Pan-American won the team event with a three-day score of 872.

Jeffries To Enter Hall of Fame

Former S.C. State football coach Willie Jeffries was named one of six new members of the 2010 Division Hall of Fame by the National Football Foundation. The Division Hall honors players and coaches from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and NAIA. Jeffries also is a member of the S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame, the S.C. State University Athletic Hall of Fame and the MEAC Hall of Fame. He will be inducted into the Division Hall during ceremonies July 16-17 in South Bend, Ind., along with players Emerson Boozer, Troy Brown, Brian Kelley, Milt Morin and coach Ted Kessinger.

Brown Signs With Liberty

Former Johnson High standout John Brown has signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Liberty. Brown, a 6-5 guard, began his college career at The Citadel before transferring to Roane State Community College. During the 2009-10 campaign, Brown averaged 16.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game this past season for the Raiders.
