Savannah Native wins Coveted Award at SSU Commencement

Kelvin Frazier Kelvin Frazier Savannah native Kelvin Frazier, a senior double majoring in chemistry and mathematics, received the President’s Second Mile Award Saturday at the commencement ceremony for Savannah State University.

The award recognizes stellar leadership on campus and in the Savannah community.

Frazier, a 2006 graduate of Windsor Forest High School, participates in numerous on- and off-campus activities, including the pep, marching and concert bands, and is a frequent soloist in the SSU Revue and Concert choirs.

He is also a scholar in the Minority Access for Graduate Education and Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (MAGECSTEM) program, which aims to produce degreed, highly competent and wellqualified minority scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.

After graduating Saturday from Savannah State, Frazier is now headed to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was accepted into the graduate program in chemistry. The offer includes an appointment as a teaching assistant and is valued at approximately $59,000 for a nine-month period.
