Protect Your Liver
Carolyn Guilford, CNC
I had the opportunity to speak to a wonderful group the other day about liver health. Then I got an email from a friend about how the liver takes care of us.
I always get questions about the best ways to detoxify the body, and the benefits. This was great inspiration. First, how the liver works The liver is the largest organ in the body, and works very hard to keep us healthy. It makes our blood and it’s clotting factors, provides the bile for digestion, fights germs and filters out poisons we eat, drink, and breathe in.
It makes proteins, stores carbs, fats and iron reserves, for later use, and that is the just the beginning. We could not live with out it. But, we never think about it. This is a great time to think about it, Summer time, when the eating is easy….. or could be very easy.
Think Detox. This is the perfect time to give the body, and the liver a break. Now, the great part: how to take care of the liver: Detoxifying, and keeping it clean. I am asked very often about detox-ing.
Yes, there are tons of products on the market, but, we really don’t need any of them to detox. The body is so great, if we give it half a chance, it would do what it needs to do to heal itself. We get in our own way. To detox is easy. Detox with a juice and water fast for 5 days. Fresh, clean, organic vegetable juice from your own home juicer 5 times every day and you will be as clean as you need to be. Summer is the perfect time to do it. Yes, you can do it. You can do anything you make up your mind to do.
The first step in creating health is to make up your mind. If you get too hungry, have a raw fresh salad, with only organic oil and vinegar dressing. No meat, cheese, or egg. Only fresh, clean, veggies and fruit. Only once per day. After the fast, It’s all about clean foods and lifestyle habits. Then, the body remains clean, and efficient.
1. Eat lots of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods; 3. Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins. And B complex (especially B12) it significantly reduces jaundice, anorexia, serum bilirubin, and enhances recovery time; 4. Drink at 1/2 your body’s weight in pure clean water daily; 5. Deep Breathing creates better oxygenation throughout your system; 6. Manage stress by emphasizing positive emotions; 7. Practice hydrotherapy; take a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes. Regular sauna sessions also help to eliminate more wastes through perspiration;8. Lessen the load: Eat less fat, become drug free, wash hands often, ( break the hand sanitizer habit), and go to sleep early, then sleep in when possible; 9. Exercise, jumping – rope or rebounding are great ways to activate the lymph system to do its part of the detoxifying and cleansing process.
