The Benefits of Real Salt
Carolyn Guilford, CNC
Natural sea salts are known to be much healthier for the body, and the taste buds, than the customary table salt most persons still use. And love to hate. Salt has gotten a bad name in certain circles (doctors who treat heart disease and diabetes, mostly).
But the truth is really this, food processing removes almost all the nutrients from foods. In order to make foods shelf stable, to not spoil, rot, or turn rancid for years and years, was a good thing for the food industry and grocery stores, but not for the human body, not for our health.
And the fortune of salt has been condemned by that same process. Sea Salt is a food, with a high value and is important for the health of every body. Once we understand the value of natural, unprocessed foods, whole foods, and start to cook our own foods from scratch, we will improve our health and our lives and enjoy a better quality of life and health.
The common table salt has been cleaned and bleached with unhealthy chemicals, and de-valued by the removal of the potassium, magnesium, calcium and other trace minerals, leaving only the sodium chloride and adding into it an inferior form of iodine. And then we listen to the nay-sayers who say Salt is harmful to us and raises our blood pressure.
Its Non sense. Natural Sea Salt with all its minerals and nutrients is a whole food, and necessary for the health of the body. Sea salt is healthier for everyone to consume, for it supports a healthy immune system.
Here are just some of the benefits of real salt: 1. Sea salt is known to stabilize and regulate the heart beat; 2. helps to reduce acidity in cells; 3. balances blood sugar levels; 4. regulates the body’s tempera ture;5. enhances the communication system of nerve cells; 6. clears mucus from the lungs; 7. prevents muscle cramps; 8. is a natural antihistamine; 9. helps prevent diabetes; 10. assists in the absorption of nutrients from foods in the intestinal tract; 11. maintains blood pressure levels ;12. maintains the body’s fluid balance; 13. assists in the body’s hormone balance It hurts my soul every time I hear someone say they don’t use salt.
It’s so not true, because without salt, the body would not be alive. But, we use the wrong kind of salt, and in so doing, we make the body sick, and sicker. And then we shop for other processed foods, which are already seasoned with common iodized table salt, and further worsen chronic disease.
It is best to either cook your own food with sea salt or find special products made with natural sea salt. Read the labels on all foods and drinks you purchase, and be especially aware of foods that have high salt content such as packaged soups, pickled foods, olives, salty snack foods, soy sauces and steak sauces, canned meats, canned soups and veggies, boxed mixes of potatoes and processed luncheon deli meats.
Just don’t buy these products at all, find better alternatives. It’s not that you can’t have these foods, you just can’t have the salt that was used in them. Cook or prepare your own food, and use only natural sea salt. Your life depends on it.
Now, if you eat a variety of fresh veggies everyday, you’ll have no problem getting enough iodine. Some great sources are, asparagus, garlic, kelp, lima beans, mushrooms, seafood, seaweed, sesame seeds, soybeans, spinach, summer squash, swiss chard, and Turnip greens.
Once you get your health in balance, you’ll be able to use salt for many other great and healthy uses including better sleep, relief of fluid retention, and to prevent common colds.
