Komen for the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate to provide breast health education and screening to women living in Chatham County public housing.

The B-WISE (Black Women Inspired to do Self Breast Exam) project will begin this month and continue through 2011. “We are very excited and thankful for the opportunity to provide this much needed service” said Cheryl Capers, Project Director.

The Savannah Black Nurses Association (SBNA) was founded on April 29, 1987, by a group of nurses concerned about dialogue, communication, education and working conditions of African American Nurses, as well as the health care needs of the African American community. In 1994 SBNA became a charter member of the National Black Nurses Association. The organization has been incorporated since 1997.

Over the years, SBNA has implemented numerous programs to bring about awareness of health issues that are critical to the African American population by providing educational workshops and screenings and it is our hope that African Americans and other underserved populations will become proactive about their health and wellness; thus realizing a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
