The Sophronia M. Tompkins High School Class of 1964 has donated Five Hundred Dollars ($500.) to the American Red Cross to assist with the earthquake disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
Lugenia Griffin Clark, who is president of the Class, says, “the decision to give was immediate and unanimous”. Clark also said, “the
Tompkins Class of '64 has a time honored tradition of supporting local humanitarian causes but the Haiti disaster was the kind of 'out of the box' concern that the Class had respond to.”
In a letter to the Class acknowledging the gift, local American Red Cross CEO Robin E. Wingate thanked the group for their “compassionate support of the American Red Cross” and assured them that their contribution is providing relief.
The S.M. Tompkins High School Class of 1964 challenges all S.M. Tompkins Classes to support the Haiti relief efforts.
Clark, Joseph Coleman, vice president, Phyllis Davis Loyd, treasurer and Carolyn Simpson Blackshear, secretary, made the presentation.
