Dr. Cornel West to Speak at Savanah State

Dr. Cornel West Dr. Cornel West Princeton University professor and noted activist, author and scholar Cornel West, Ph.D., will deliver a lecture Thursday, April 1, at Savannah State University. Often called one of America’s most provocative intellectuals and a lifelong advocate for racial justice, West will speak on “The Foundations of Our Legacy: Treasuring Our Past, Preparing for Our Future.”

West emerged on the national stage in 1993 with the best-selling “Race Matters,” an analysis of racism in American democracy. He has edited 13 texts, written 19 other books – the most recent a memoir entitled “Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud” – and is a weekly commentator on “The Tavis Smiley Show,” produced by Public Radio International.

“An Evening with Dr. West,” presented by Miss Savannah State University 2009-10 and the university Division of Student Affairs, will be held at 7 p.m. at Tiger Arena on the SSU campus. All proceeds from the sale of the $15 general-admission tickets will benefit the Miss Savannah State University Scholarship; SSU students will be admitted into the event for free with appropriate identification.
