Helen Downing The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will hold their Second Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon on Friday, March 5, 2010.

The event will recognize five local women who have made extraordinary accomplishments in their professions and in their communities, exemplifying the values of Girl Scouts.This year's recipients are: Helen Downing, Community Leader and Historical Preservationist; Dr. Martha Fay, Educator and Community Activist*;Patti Lyons, Senior Citizens, Inc.; Sandy McCloud, Century 21 Fox Properties; Pamela Howard-Oglesby, West Savannah Community Organization;*Dr. Martha Fay will be posthumously honored for her extraordinary life.

This event will take place on March 5, 2010, from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM at the Charles H. Morris Center at Trustees Garden.

Patti Lyons The Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad. It describes itself as "the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls."

The Girl Scout program, which developed from the concerns of the progressive movement in the United States, sought to promote the social welfare of young women and was formed as a counterpart to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

It was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 and is based on the Scouting principles developed by Robert Baden- Powell.
