SSU Men Win Third In A Row
Tracy Rankins hit two free throws with one second left to give Savannah State a 68- 66 win over Longwood at Tiger Arena on January 23. Preston Blackmon made two free throws with two seconds left to tie the game at 66. Patrick Hardy scored a game high 17 points for the Tigers (8-12). Blackmon added 13, Rankins 12 and Arnold Louis grabbed 10 rebounds. SSU led by eight early in the second half but had to withstand a Lancer rally. The Tigers defeated North Carolina Central 46-44 in overtime at Tiger Arena on Jan. 20. SSU trailed 13-5 at the half but rallied to send the game into an extra period tied at 36 as Rashad Hassan made a layup with eight seconds left. In the overtime, Hassan scored five points and pulled down five rebounds. Hassan had 14 points and nine boards and Louis had 10 rebounds.Tigers Run At ETSU
Amara Jones claimed 2nd in the women's 400m race and 3rd in the 400m race to lead the Savannah State indoor track team at the 32nd Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State on January 22 & 23. The women's 4x400m relay team was 6th and Amber Hughes was 8th in the triple jump. Marcus Stallworth was 6th in the men's 60m hurdles and the men's 4x400m relay team finished 8th.Recruits Visit SSU The Savannah State football program hosted 13 recruits on January 23. As well as touring the campus, the recruits and their parents also attended the SSU basketball game with Longwood. Of the visitors, 12 are in high school and one is looking to transfer from a Division I school. Head coach Robby Wells expects to have more recruits visit on Jan. 30.
