Walter Moore Walter Moore Rankins Scores 25 In SSU Win

Tracy Rankins scored 25 points to lead Savannah State to a 73-63 win over Central Connecticut State on January 11. As a team, the Tigers had the hot hand. SSU shot 75 percent from 3-point range in the first half and 70 percent from the field in the second half. The Tigers led by 19 but CCSU pulled within seven with just over four minutes left. SSU answered with back to back jumpers from Rankins to pull away. Patrick Hardy scored 15 points for the Tigers (6-12) and Arnold Louis had 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Preston Blackmon had a double double with 10 points and 10 assists.

Lady Tigers Steak At Nine Games

The losing streak of the Savannah State women's basketball team reached nine games after SSU fell to Charleston Southern 69-36 on January 12 at Tiger Arena. The Buccaneers were ahead by three but went on a 13-0 run to grab a 22-6 lead. Things did not get better in the second period for SSU as Charleston had runs of 15-3 and 13-4. CSU led by 39 points with just under five minutes left. Courtney Long scored 14 points for SSU (8- 13) and had six rebounds and four assists. Alisha Nelson scored eight points and Carlita Johnson came off the bench to grab eight rebounds.

Lady Warriors To Hold Tryouts

The Savannah Lady Warriors, the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) 2009 national champions will have tryouts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, at the Salvation Army located at 3000 Bee Road in Savannah. The registration fee is $30. SSU Winter Baseball Showcase Is January 24

The Winter Savannah State Baseball High School Showcase Camp has been moved to Sunday, January 24. Registration will begin on Sunday, January 24 at 8:45 a.m. with the camp starting at 10 a.m. For additional information please contact head baseball coach Carlton Hardy at 912-356-2801. The camp was originally slated for January 17.
