Lady Tigers Lose To Charleston Southern
Savannah State fell to 8-7 after suffering a 66-51 setback at Charleston Southern on December 22. SSU trailed by seven at the half but the Buccaneers started the second period with a 12-5 run and then added a 9-0 rally to take a 42-28 lead with 15 minutes left. SSU would get within 10 but Charleston Southern would answer with a 8-1 spurt to pull away. Crissa Jackson led SSU with 17 points and six steals while Courtney Long scored 15 points and Kym Stamps added 13 points. Alisha Nelson had 15 rebounds and six blocks.Tiger Baseball To Play 57 Games
The Savannah State baseball team will open their 2010 season on February 19 with a three-game series against Central Florida in Orlando. The first home game will be February 26 against Delaware State. The Tigers will host Holy Cross on March 3 and will renew their series with crosstown rival Armstrong Atlantic on April 13. SSU will play teams from the SWAC, MEAC, SIAC, ACC, Big South, Atlantic Sun as well as NAIA schools like Edward Waters and USC Beaufort.Green Loses Job Former Savannah State defensive line/linebackers coach Greg Green was one of three assistants fired from the Texas Southern coaching staff recently. Green coached special teams and defensive ends at TSU for the past two seasons after working at Kentucky State, Tuskegee and SSU. While at Savannah State from 1995-99, Green also served as the SSU women's tennis coach.
