Walter Moore Former SSU AD Passes

Former Savannah State professor and athletics director Dr. Kenneth F. Taylor passed away on December 8. Taylor spent 25 years at SSU. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native served two terms as interim AD at Savannah State, 1985- 86 and 1994-95. Taylor joined the SSU family in 1971 and became and became head of the health, physical education and recreation department in 1974. Taylor held two undergraduate degrees from Stillman and two graduate degrees from Alabama. Taylor, who retired from SSU in 1997, was living in Fayetteville, GA at the time of his passing.

SSU Athletes Receive Degrees

Savannah State held graduation exercises on December 12 and 14 former Tiger student athletes received their degrees. Receiving degrees were Milan Johnson (women's basketball), Jonathan Johnson (football), Isaiah Osborne (football), Randy Harling (football), William Baxter (golf), Valentina Howard (women's track), Roland Jackson (football), Erica Marchand (cheerleader), Patrice Robinson (women's basketball), Antoinette Williams (women's basketball), April Hayes (volleyball), Kari Parker (volleyball), Shamice James (women's basketball) and Antoine Toombs (football). Milan Johnson earned a graduate degree while Baxter, Marchand and Osborne graduated with honors.

Lady Tigers Beat Alabama State

Savannah State held Alabama State without a field goal for nearly 12 minutes in the second half as the Lady Tigers defeated ASU 45-36 in Tiger Arena on December 13. During that 12 minute span SSU went on a 12-3 run to expand their one point lead to a 40-30 margin with 4:18 remaining. SSU (7-3) had a 10-0 run late in the first half. Crissa Jackson had 15 points for the winners while Raven James grabbed 10 rebounds.

SS Men Fall To 4-6

St. Bonaventure opened the second half with a 15-0 run to take a 50-22 lead as the Bonni es rolled past Savannah State 79-47 in the Reilly Center before 3,331 fans. With just over five minutes remaining, SSU trailed 72-35. Tracy Rankins had 11 points for the Tigers and Ra shad Hassan added 10. St. Bonaventure (6-3) shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and 53.3 percent for the game.
