Congressman John Barrow Savannah State University (SSU) will hold its 175th commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 12, at 10 a.m. in Tiger Arena. Approximately 200 students will receive undergraduate and graduate degrees following the commencement address by U.S. Congressman John Barrow of Georgia.

Currently serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Barrow represents Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, which covers 22 counties and 10,000 square miles. In the House, he serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and subcommittees for Energy and Environment; Health; and Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection. Barrow earned degrees in political science and history from the University of Georgia. At the age of 20, he became one of the youngest members of his class at Harvard Law School. Before being elected to Congress in 2004, Barrow was elected as a charter member of the Athens-Clarke County Commission where he served for 14 years.

Established in 1890, Savannah State is on the move to become the best value-added university in the nation. The university’s approximately 3,800 students are enrolled in 23 undergraduate degree majors and five graduate programs in three colleges: Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration and Sciences and Technology.
